Roof Cleaning for Medway homes and businesses

We carry out roof cleaning for homeowners and businesses across Medway and the surrounding Kent villages. Moss removal and softwash treatment, with the method chosen to suit the covering.

We cover roof cleaning right across the Medway towns, including Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham and Strood. Exposed elevations and heavy tree cover in the valley mean roofs here pick up moss and algae quickly, and access is often the first thing we assess.

Strood, Rainham and the wider Medway towns keep us busy year round, with exposed elevations, hard water staining and gutters that fill quickly from surrounding trees.

What we find in Medway

  • Gutter clearing and downpipe checks, with before and after photographs.
  • Render, cladding and painted elevations softwashed rather than pressure washed.
  • Driveways, forecourts and parking areas cleaned for homes and local businesses.

What the job includes

  • Roof and access survey before quoting
  • Manual moss removal and scraping where the covering suits it
  • Softwash biocide application to treat algae, lichen and remaining spores
  • Gutter and downpipe clearance of dislodged moss
  • Ground level clear-up of fallen debris
  • Powered access or safe working at height as the site requires

How we work

  1. Survey. Inspect the covering, pitch, condition and access, and agree what is realistic.
  2. Set up access. Position powered access or safe working platforms and protect the ground below.
  3. Remove and treat. Take off the bulk of the moss, then apply biocide to the cleaned covering.
  4. Clear gutters and site. Clear dislodged material from gutters, valleys and the ground.

FAQs

Roof Cleaning in Medway — common questions

How much does roof cleaning cost in Medway?

Every Medway property is different, so we price on the size and condition of the job rather than a flat rate. Send us a few photos or the address and you will get a fixed written quote back — no call-out fee and no obligation.

Do you cover the whole of Medway?

Yes. We cover Medway and the surrounding area, including Rochester, Chatham, Gillingham. We are based in Maidstone, so Medway is a regular run for us.

Which Medway towns do you clean roofs in?

Chatham, Rochester, Gillingham, Strood and Rainham, plus the Hoo Peninsula villages. Each town has its own page with the local detail if you want to see how we approach it there.

How do you reach a roof on a steep Medway street?

Access is assessed before we quote. Where a powered platform can be positioned safely we work from it; on tight plots near Rochester High Street we use powered access rather than scaffolding. If it cannot be done safely, we tell you and quote the alternative.

Why do roofs in the Medway valley moss up so quickly?

Damp estuary air and heavy tree cover in the valley keep slopes wet for longer, and north-facing elevations barely dry out at all. Those are the slopes that need treating most often.

Do you treat the render and gutters at the same time?

We usually do. Roof debris fills the guttering anyway, and render exposed to the river air picks up algae, so combining the work into one visit saves a second set-up.

Can you clean a roof without damaging the tiles?

Yes, when the method suits the covering. Manual moss removal and softwashing are far gentler than high pressure water, which can strip the granular surface off older concrete tiles and force water under laps.

How do you remove moss from a roof?

Usually by lifting the bulk off by hand or with a scraper, then applying a biocide to kill the remaining growth and spores. The treated residue weathers off over the following months.

How often should a roof be cleaned?

There is no fixed interval. North-facing roofs and those under trees may need attention every few years; open, sunny roofs can go much longer. An annual look at the gutters usually tells you.

Do you use high pressure on roofs?

Only where the covering genuinely suits it, and it is not our default. On most domestic roofs we recommend manual removal and softwashing instead.
